Launch and Price
The Nintendo Switch 2 was released worldwide on June 5, 2025. It costs $449.99. This new console is a better and stronger version of the original Switch. It still works as a hybrid system — you can play it on your TV, on a table, or in your hands.
It has better performance, a bigger 8-inch screen, improved Joy-Con controllers, and it can play most older Switch games too. Nintendo advertises it with the message: “All Together, Anytime, Anywhere.”
The console sold extremely well. In just the first four days, more than 3.5 million units were sold. By September 30, 2025, it had sold 10.36 million units, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever.
Record Sales
Nintendo’s financial report for Q2 2026 shows how strong the Switch 2 launch has been.
By September 30, Nintendo had sold:
- 10.36 million consoles, and
- 20.62 million games
Top-selling games include:
- Mario Kart World – 9.57 million copies
- Donkey Kong Bananza – 3.49 million copies since its July 17 release
In October 2025 alone, Switch 2 sold 1.37 million units, slightly more than the PlayStation 5, which sold 1.31 million.
For the year 2025 so far:
- Switch 2: 10.68 million
- PS5: 10.50 million
- Original Switch: 3.69 million
- Xbox Series X|S: 1.89 million
The U.S. remains Nintendo’s biggest market, followed by Japan and the rest of Asia. Europe is behind, selling only 262,000 units in October.
Nintendo Switch 2 Updated Sales Forecast
Because the Switch 2 is selling so well, Nintendo increased its sales prediction for the year ending March 2026.
The new forecast:
- 19 million Switch 2 consoles
- 48 million games
Sales of the original Switch are expected to slow down to 4 million consoles this year, since most people are upgrading to the new model.
Analysts also say Nintendo will likely produce around 25 million Switch 2 units by March 2026 to meet holiday demand and prepare for big games like Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
System Update 21.0.1
On November 24, 2025, Nintendo released update 21.0.1 for both the Switch 2 and the original Switch.
This update fixes:
- Bluetooth audio problems after waking the console from Sleep or Airplane Mode
- Data transfer errors between consoles
- Wireless controller disconnect issues caused by earlier updates
There are no new features—this update is mainly for improving stability and fixing bugs.
Black Friday 2025 Deals
Because the Switch 2 is still new and selling very well, there are no big discounts for Black Friday 2025. The price remains $449.99.
However, some bundle deals are available:
- Switch 2 + Mario Kart World
- Switch 2 + Pokémon Legends
Most bundles save around $20–$30 at Best Buy, Walmart, and Amazon.
Accessory deals are more common, such as:
- 256GB microSD cards for about $47
- Pro Controllers for under $60
- Donkey Kong Bananza at its lowest price yet
European stores have similar bundle offers.
Upcoming Games for the Holidays
December 2025 has many new games coming.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows releases on December 2 with special Switch 2 features, including 60fps when docked and cross-progression support.
More big titles like Civilization VII are coming soon as well.
From Nintendo’s April 2025 Direct, fans can also expect:
- New modes for Mario Kart World
- The major release Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which is expected to boost holiday sales
Competition and What’s Next
In 2025 so far, the Switch 2 is selling better than the PS5. Xbox Series X|S is far behind. The Switch 2’s hybrid design and ability to play older Switch games make upgrading easy for players.
Nintendo expects to sell 19 million Switch 2 consoles this fiscal year. With steady updates, bundles, and strong game releases, the console is likely to remain popular through 2026.
